Combining Helpline & Health Information Resources to Meet Community Needs

Event Date: February 28, 2023

Recent storm and flood damage, power outages, and dislocations remind us how quickly circumstances can change. When people reach out for assistance, whether it’s for housing or food or health care, the last thing they need is the additional burden of repeating information, telling their stories over and over, or searching endlessly (and often fruitlessly) to find out what’s available locally that meets their needs. That’s why two local nonprofits, United Way of Santa Cruz County and SCHIO, our local health information exchange, recently announced an alliance that will allow SCHIO to present a more whole person view to include United Way’s 211 program enrollment in SCHIO’s health and human services information-sharing presentation.

Watch this CORE Coffee Chat to learn more about this partnership and what it could mean for our community. During this conversation with United Way CEO, Keisha Browder, and SCHIO Executive Director, Dan Chávez. informed us about how referrals for ongoing needs such as housing, food, and transportation can be more customized and efficient, and what to expect as the partnership expands this year.
